I've seen Penn in NY like 3 times. If I ever see him again I don't think I have the nerve to say "xoxo" or "hey gossip girl" or "you know we love you" or any variation but omg I kind of want to.

lol i recently talked to my co-worker who worked on the Gossip Girl set a few times in S3

she said literally no one gave a shit, especially Penn who would take 20 takes to one simple line and didn't even try. and everyone carried their cue cards/lines in their pocket, and Chace was fascinated by her prop with glued-on h'or devours because "that's so smart!"

i lol'ed for days. no one cared on that show.

and Taylor Momsen stood in the corner diligently practicing her lines and looking at her cue cards

and the directors pronounced Leighton's name "Leiiigh-ton" and she'd always be like "I NEED WATER!"

this is the full Chace story according to her (her impressions of him were spot on):

she was standing there for hours holding her prop in between all the takes, and Chace turns to her and goes "hey, what's up"
and she's like "lol hi"
and he goes "can i see your prop?"
"lol sure"
"wait..." (goes to pick up an h'or devour and sniff it) "there are like, glued on"
"yeah, so they don't fall off"
"that's so smart! haha"

"Penn, we're gonna need you to come in and say with A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM, 'What are you doing here???"
Penn: (calm) What are you doing here?
CUT!
20 takes later...etc.

that and the other few tidbits i replied with are all i know as of now, aside from the fact that the directors hated their jobs and it took HOURS to shoot one tiny thing and forever to set up those crazy party scenes with extras.

she told me because the show had a shit budget to begin with, they paid their actors less/about the same throughout the run of the show so they could use the $$ on production values. i think that, along with the shitty writing, was why the cast got sick of it. it became a job they got up and went to that no one really enjoyed.

also no one was friendly except Chace, who was ditzy and liked to talk to extras for the lulz
